WHAT IS JACRON PAPER?
Jacron paper is a sustainable sheet of kraft paper made from cellulose, (the main fibre that forms the structure of plants), water and some particles of natural rubber. It’s a vegan and eco-friendly option, and an amazing alternative to leather: jacron looks similar to real leather, but it’s 100% animal-free. Jacron was first used in the 1950s in jeans tags, also called jacrons. Thanks to its durable and water-resistant qualities, jacron paper was adopted by Levi’s to replace leather tags. In our search for new sustainable fabrics, we discovered that Jacron paper works fabulously in fashion. Now we are able to achieve a look that is similar to leather while respecting our planet!
THE PROPERTIES OF JACRON PAPER
1. DURABLE AND EXTRA-RESISTANT
Unlike soft leather, jacron is an extremely strong and durable material - resistant to high-tear and abrasions. This is possible thanks to the way wood pulp is press-heated with the rubber particles. Our largest backpack can carry up to 8-10 kg.
2. WASHABLE
Jacron paper bags can be washed in the washing machine.
Instruction for washing: Use a gentle machine setting, ideally at 40 degrees Celsius. We suggest placing your backpack into a laundry bag for extra protection. You can use your preferred laundry detergent. Drying your backpack is just as simple. After washing, hang it flat and let it dry naturally - not under direct sun.
3. WATER RESISTANT
How can a bag made of paper be resistant to water?!
This is possible due to the molecular structure of this material. The high-density of the wood pulp polymers allows it to be effectively repellent to water and to provide protection from moisture. Each Unfold bag is water-resistant, which means you can conveniently wear your backpack out in the rain.
4. RECYCLABLE AND BIODEGRADABLE
Unfold bags are extremely durable, and yet they can be easily recycled.
Each single part of our Unfold backpacks is recyclable!
You can conveniently dispose of Jacron paper, zipper chain, slider and popper buttons - made from flat wires - in the designated recycling bin. Bring the cotton lining and straps to your nearest goodwill recycling centre or clothing shops with a recycling collection point.
5. LIGHTWEIGHT
Jacron is a very lightweight material - our heaviest backpack weighs just 600 grams. Check out our Nord Backpack here.
This is perfect when carrying heavy objects inside your bag: a strong but light bag doesn’t add extra deadweight to your back!
